Medical Job Title: NURSING ASSISTANT
Location: Phoenix, Arizona


Job Description:  Demonstrates the ability to observe basic bodily functions. Takes and records vital signs. Weights and measures patients. Measures and records intake and output. Reports unusual conditions or emergencies to the registered nurse/team leader. Assists in admitting and discharging patients following nursing/hospital policies and procedures. Demonstrates the ability to contribute to the plan of patient care according to patient needs and established standards, and hospital policies and procedures. Shares in the responsibility for initiation and maintenance of clinical records and patient care plans. Assists in planning daily activities in accordance with patient and unit needs. Demonstrates expertise in basic nursing care. Assists in administering oxygen and postural drainage. Gives routine pre- and postoperative, and ante- and postpartum care. Applies and removes binders and bandages (arm slings, ace bandages, etc). Applies simple dressings as directed by the registered nurse. Applies head and cold locally, and generally observes patient's condition and reactions, and reporting them to the registered nurse. Assists patient when providing care and prevents movement, obstruction or dislodging of drainage, suction and parenteral fluid apparatus. Assists the physician in examination of patients by positioning, draping and assembling instruments and supplies. Assists in providing post-mortem care. Provides basic instruction to patients/families/significant others. Teaches patients self-care when so instructed by the registered nurse. Promotes orderly functions of the nursing unit. Transports patients into special departments within the hospital. Performs general maintenance duties including cleaning and arranging supply cupboards, cleaning and sorting supplies, instruments and equipment, and reporting deficiencies in supplies and equipment. Complies with hospital infection control and safety standards. Maintains a clean, neat and safe work environment. Demonstrates the ability and willingness to adapt to special circumstances such as staff problems, patient emergencies, fluctuations in census and disasters. Works on a regularly assigned or rotational basis to provide continuity of services during evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Complies with Service Excellence requirements. Evaluates patient care given. Makes entries under subjective and objective headings on the patient's chart and records other data as required. Documents observations relative to the patient's condition and reaction, treatment and nursing care given. Communicates effectively with patients and their significant others, co-workers, physicians and personnel from other departments in the hospital. Utilizes channels of communication according to hospital policy and directs questions and problems to the appropriate individuals at the appropriate time. Listens attentively to information shared by co-workers. Reads and assures that he/she understands new policies and procedures. Asks for clarification when needed. Shares information about nursing unit problems, supplies, and equipment and/or accomplishments. Complies with the Privacy Act and demonstrates respect for the confidentiality of information obtained from a patient and/or his/her medical record. Respects the confidentiality of personal information about co-workers. Participates in the educational development of self and co-workers. Attends and participates in nursing committees to maintain and upgrade skills. Attends and participates in staff meetings when on duty, or reads and initials staff meeting minutes when off duty at the time when staff meetings was held. Receives formal and informal on-the-job training to include classroom instruction and demonstrations of procedures and techniques by professional or licensed nursing personnel. Must maintain current basic CPR certification for continued employment.
