Nurse Practitioner-Palliative Care
The Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner
is responsible for conducting medical screenings, assessments, examinations, and treatments of patients referred to the Palliative Care service.


The Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner may also assume the duties and responsibilities in the clinic setting as directed by the Palliative
Care Department or the Palliative Care Medical Director. A physician must be available for collaboration. The Palliative Care Nurse
Practitioner reports to the Palliative Care Medical Director.

Minimum Qualifications:


A. Licensure in the State of
Idaho as a Registered Nurse Practitioner, DEA Certificate, and Controlled
Substance License.

B. Excellent interpersonal and
communication skills.

C. Ability and willingness to
demonstrate and maintain competency as required for job title and the
unit of assignment.

D. Process excellent listening,
verbal, writing and observation skills.

E. Ability to remain objective
and non-judgmental.

F. Ability and willingness to
work with the growth and development needs of patients and families.

G. Ability to manage a chaotic
and/or stressful work environment related to patients and families in
crisis.

Schedule/Shift: Full time,
Mon-Fri, Shift TBD, Weekend call. Other on call to be determined by
PC Team

Reports to: Medical Director
of Palliative Care


Duties and Responsibilities:

Clinical Practice

1. Conducts focused medical
assessments:

Medical
history

Physical
examination

Evaluation
and interpretation of testing or other evaluation measures.

Ordering of laboratory
tests, medical imaging studies, durable medical equipment or treatments
as indicated

Overall health screenings with appropriate referral and follow-up

Prescribe medications, including controlled substances, to the extent delegated
and licensed

Perform other therapeutic or corrective measures as indicated, including urgent
care

2. Assist with diagnosis, treatment
and management of acute and chronic health conditions.

3. Provide services related
to health maintenance and promotion, palliative care and end-of-life care

4. Possess professional skill and knowledge in assessing pathology and disease processes.

5. Document assessment appropriately.

Prepare and maintain accurate patient records, charts, and documents to support
sound medical practice and reimbursement for services rendered.

6. Initiate reimbursement for services rendered.

7. Consult/collaborate with primary care providers, other health care disciplines, community resources and others, during the course of evaluation and treatment.

8. Utilize approved references and procedure manuals when providing care.

9. Provide training and continuing education for staff as requested.

Physical Requirements:

Frequent standing, walking,
sitting.

Occasional bending/stooping,
squatting, twisting/turning from the waist, kneeling, pushing/pulling objects on rollers/wheels (and without rollers/wheels). Ability to maintain a stable posture and gait with hands free to perform anticipated (or routine) and emergent patient care. Frequent moving objects vertically (up & down) and moving objects horizontally (left/right) up to 15 lbs. Frequent handling (holding, grasping, working with hands), and fingering (pinching, picking, working with hands). Senses needed to assess, monitor and evaluate people and their environment and to perform the essential functions of the position. Frequent need to hear and talk in a quiet/noisy surrounds and talk/hear over the telephone. Vision for near/far acuity, depth perception, and color vision. Touch for feeling size, shape, temperature, and texture by finger receptors. Smell to determine hot/burning equipment.
