Situated on the beautiful Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, BMH is the largest Hospital between Savannah, Ga. and Charleston, S.C.

One of the few Hospitals in the Country with an Emergency Dock for vessels, the Hospital has evolved from a small-town healthcare facility to a high-quality Regional Referral Center which includes the Cochrane Heart Center. Through its affiliation with Duke University Health System, BMH's Cochrane Heart Center offers a full range of diagnostic heart services, including cardiac catheterizations. BMH was on Terry Bradshaw's "Pick of the Week" on MSNBC. The Hospital was selected for its commitment to excellence, as well as its efforts in bringing the latest advancements in healthcare to its growing community.

Beaufort Memorial Hospital (BMH) is a nonprofit community hospital with a Board of Trustees approved by the Beaufort County Council. Although it is a County hospital, less than 1 percent of the hospital's operating budget comes from County funds, and in accordance with our nonprofit status, all excess revenues are reinvested back into the hospital's facilities and services. Today, more than ever, BMH's programs depend on contributions from our patients and friends. Thoughtful gifts of all sizes make possible the state-of-the-art equipment and modern facility that help attract and retain the skilled and compassionate staff of BMH. Licensed for 182 beds (130 acute, 14 rehab, 18 transitional care and 20 psychiatric), BMH is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and boasts a quality medical staff of more than 100 board-certified physicians. With a full range of specialties, and close to 1000 employees, BMH investment into people and technology never ends. The Hospital has been named one of the nation’s “Most Wireless” facilities, according to the 2003 Most Wired Survey and Benchmarking Study, released by Hospitals & Health Networks magazine.

BMH is fully certified for Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Champus and accepts other major insurers and most major plans.

The history of Beaufort is a mosaic of many peoples who have labored, loved, and lived together over centuries to create today’s colorful tableau. While all the traces of Beaufort’s first inhabitant’s, the Archaic Indians, date back to 4,000 years, Europeans did not arrive until around 1521, when the Spanish galleons appeared. Today reminders of the city’s colorful history abound. If you like golf, you’ll love the Lowcountry. Tom Fazio, Arthur Hills, Arnold Palmer and Russell Breedon are just some of the architects that have left their mark with breathtaking golf courses in some waterfront communities. Best of all, courses can be enjoyed year-round. Everyone loves a day at the beach, which can also be enjoyed year-round.
