Wouldn't use ER again - 07/02/2010 15:59:01
P. Lake from Waddell AZ
I went to the ER because of a reaction to a scorpion sting. It was advised by poison control once it became apparent I was having a more severe reaction than normal. Let me preface by saying there was no one waiting and there didn't seem to be any patients there or certainly none that required attention. I was seen immediately. I explained the symptoms and my conversation with poison control. The PA who saw me had been stung once and proceeded to tell me his experience which was completely different from mine. He raised his eyebrows in seeming surprise that I was describing something different. Unfortunately he prescribed treatment based on his experience which was a tetanus shot, ice and a benedryl. My reaction was head to toe pins and needles, restlessness, agitation and mildly elevated heart rate - more the reactions of a child being stung than a healthy adult. They were ready to send me home 10 minutes later. I didn't want to leave - it didn't feel as though my symptoms were being addressed. Turns out I was right, after my husband complained 5 different times, I was moved to a different "level of care" yet no different level of care was given. I did finally receive meds that helped, after more than an hour there. I felt completely blown off due to their own assumptions. I can't imagine the experience had I been seriously injured or ill.
