Banner Baywood Medical Center was founded in 1984, the 239 bed facility offers complete acute health care services to the dynamic and fast-growing East Valley of Maricopa County, such as Mesa, Gilbert, Apache Junction, Queen Creek, Fountain Hills and areas of northeastern Pinal County.

Banner Baywood Medical Center has a full range of clinical and specialty programs. Banner Baywood Medical Center also provides diagnostic services, including lithotripsy, endoscopy, and MRI and CT scanning capabilities to its clients.

The Orthopaedic Institute at Banner Baywood Medical Center is ranked as one of the top 100 orthopedic programs in the United States by the Health Network and HCIA, Inc. For two years running, the Orthopaedic Institute has earned this distinction with the latest technology for this specialty. More than 1,000 joint replacements are performed annually.

From humble beginnings, Mesa has developed into the third largest city in Arizona and the 40th largest city in the United States. Located about 12 miles southeast of Phoenix on US Highway 60 and AZ Route 87 and stretching over an area of more than 122 square miles, Mesa's population, in 2002 was estimated to be 426,841, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. The city’s population grew by more than 37 percent between 1990 and 2000, much higher than the national average growth rate of 13 percent.
