My grandmother was there and healthy for FOUR DAYS. We were getting ready for our annual SUPERBOWL Sunday party. On Saturday night my 93 yo grandmother was not feeling well when I stopped to see her at 930pm. As the records show at 11:00pm she rang her nurse call light because she was in severe pain (chest and back) with profuse sweating. She told the CNA she thought she had food poisoning. She asked the aide to remain with her since she was in such pain. Also asked at that time from my grandmother was for the staff to call me (her grandson) and family. We were 3 miles down the road from her but WE NEVER RECEIVED A CALL. Throughout the night my grandmother was restless and in pain and by 6:00 am she finally fell to sleep. At 6:30 am she rang her call light to have her brief changed as she soiled it. The staff did that. At 6:45 am her breakfast tray came to her room where my grandmother was found DEAD.
NOT ONCE was the family called that night and as I spoke with the nurse in charge that night I was told that I had signed the DNR paperwork (a ORANGE sheet) in her chart that showed do not resuscitate). This was the reason your grandmother was not medically helped because her body was shutting down and her heart was stopping. THIS IS EXACTLY WAS I WAS TOLD BY THE NURSE IN CHARGE and she NEVER called us AS MY GRANDMOTHER HAD REQUESTED!!!!. SHE WAS ALONE A SCARED and by herself when she died and that did not have to happen!!! The nursing staff didn't care to honor her wishes and go to the chart to make that phone call to us her family. We would have been there in MINUTES!!!
SILVER LAKE has caused my family additional pain by NOT doing as the patient requested. THEY SIMPLY DIDN'T CARE. I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else as my family loved our grandmother and wanted to be with her.
Still breaks my heart to think of her alone and dying in the cold place.
God help that nurse as KARMA will make it right. Hate these medically people who treat patients like a number instead of a PERSON.
