My Grandma was in ICU at Des Peres hospital. She had pneumonia and a hernia. Her doctor (from Des Peres Hospital) had diagnosed her with this hernia but never followed up on it. While she was in the hospital for pneumonia they found part of her intestines had wrapped around her hernia and had died. One of the times I was visiting her O2 stats went down to 68% and stayed in the 70s for a while without one nurse checking on her. She ended up getting a femoral line (which are prone to infection and most hospitals steer clear of) got grossly infected. The infection along with CDiff ended up taking my Grandma’s life. Evidently one time the staff was working on her infection my Aunt (a surgical nurse) had to stop them because they were not using proper sterile techniques to ensure the infection wasn’t worsened by other contaminants. My Uncle also witnessed my Grandma’s feces and urine entering the wound. I find the whole encounter absolutely repulsive. I hope my family takes further steps and ensures it doesn’t happen to the next patient.
