Description

The Ogallala Community Hospital has been serving the community and Keith County since 1952. In November of 2000, we moved into our new 18 bed, state-of-the-art hospital.

As a member of Banner Health System, Ogallala Community Hospital focuses on improving the health of the people in the region by providing the best in technological equipment and services. We are committed to meeting the health care needs in a compassionate and caring atmosphere.

If it's been your dream to practice in a small, state of the art facility in a prosperous and progressive town with a population of 5500 plus, Ogallala Community Hospital is just what the doctor ordered. Ogallala voters are committed to the health and well being of its citizens. Surrounded by incredible choices of recreational opportunities for every age, our modern 20 bed Acute and Skilled Care facility completed in October of 2000 has two operating rooms, an in house pharmacy with a licensed pharmacist, a full time Certified Respiratory Therapist, as well as a specialty clinic with thirty specialty doctors rotating their visits. We are members of Banner Health System, one of the largest non-church affiliated, not-for-profit healthcare systems in the United States. Banner Health System operates hospitals, nursing homes and skilled nursing units in 14 states, including Alaska. Furthermore Banner Health System employs nearly 25,000 people, making it one of the country's largest employers.

Ogallala (pop.5900) the county seat of Keith County (pop. 8900) is a progressive, flourishing and growing community. Located in southwestern Nebraska between the North and South Platte Rivers, it has excellent schools, churches, and civic organizations. With a standard of living well above the average for a medium-sized community, Ogallala offers a wide variety of affordable, quality housing to satisfy the needs of its citizens. Farming, ranching, cattle feeding, manufacturing, and tourism support the quality of life in Keith County. Several bedroom communities round out the dedicated workforce to support Ogallala’s economic activity. Ogallala is 3,216 feet above sea level with a great climate. Outdoors activities abound. Located 12 miles north of Ogallala is Lake McConaughy, known as “Big Mac”, one of Nebraska’s most popular vacation spots. Big Mac’s waters and the 100 plus miles of white sand beaches provide for year round activities such as fishing, boating, diving, jet skiing, water skiing, sailing, windsurfing, and recreational camping in the summer. Ice boating, ice fishing and hunting for deer, turkey, and one of the best migratory waterfowl in the nation are done in the winter. Over 300 bald eagles annually have been spotted at Kingsley Dam and can be viewed at the Eagle Viewing Facility from December to mid-March. Besides all of the above, the city operates 11 city parks, an indoor and an outdoor pool, tennis courts, and a new sports complex. The $1 million dollar complex provides regulation softball and soccer fields, concessions and parking. Golf is popular. West Wind golf course is an 18 hole semi-private golf course which offers a driving range, restaurant, lounge, and pro-shop. Bayside golf course, located at Lake McConaughy, offers 18 holes of golf and residential lots for building. The beautiful log-cabin clubhouse incorporates a restaurant, lounge, pro-shop, and is available for private parties. The Ogallala Regional Arts Council presents a variety of diverse cultural activities to the community year-round. Presentations range from real western music to Broadway shows.

What makes working in your organization different from working for other employers?
Expectations run high in Ogallala and do not stop when it comes to health care. We are fortunate to live in a progressive, pro – healthcare oriented community. We have a strong belief value system; the work ethic and job satisfaction of those earliest settlers still exist in the local work force today.

Can you explain the career opportunities available for new graduates in your organization?
Occasionally, new graduates are hired in areas as needed. Banner Health System provides a structured orientation program. It varies from department as to the length of time. Facilities provide the "Nurse Residency Program", which is held two to three times per year. A new graduate RN comes into the system, participates in training and education, obtains knowledge and experiences in different nursing units, and is then eventually placed at one of our hospitals.

What can a candidate expect during their interview process?
The candidate will have a private interview with a manager, which may turn into a group interview. Details of the position are discussed. An overview of the organization is provided. A phone interview can also take place, and then the candidate could be invited for a personal interview. Candidates may be brought in from out of state and are reimbursed for expenses incurred.

What are some common mistakes candidates make when applying for jobs with your facility?
Sometimes Applicants do not tell us enough about their knowledge, skill, ability and experience. Often they omit identifying certifications they have earned and training they have received. While a candidate may apply for one position, we may also wish to consider her/him for other positions for which she/he may be qualified. The candidate should be forthright and honest regarding their past history. Background checks are done on the candidates that apply.
