Worst Medical Care In Seattle Star OnStar OffStar OffStar OffStar Off - 08/26/2009 10:43:45
Just A Dad from Seattle. WA
Terrible, terrible medical care. Without question the worst place to receive medical care in the Seattle area-unless you are near death with an injury or other life threatening condition. Then it might be the best place. If you just need emergency medical services and your condition is not life threatening-avoid Harborview at all costs. My son had his face torn up by glass from an explosion and we were sent to Harborview after the plastic surgeon at Overlake Hospital in Bellevue thought the nature of my son's injury required the expertise of a doctor there. We arrived at 1AM on a Sunday. We waited 26 hours in the emergency department until he was finally taken to surgery at 3AM Monday morning. Plastic surgery on his face that started at 3 in the morning. I don't know about you, but I'd kinda prefer my plastic surgeon be asleep at 3 in the morning and that he do the delicate surgery on my son's face during normal hours-like how about 10 in the morning? after he had breakfast! But at Harborview-where they have 24 operating rooms but were only running 3-you go when there is a spot on the schedule open. My son is just a kid from the suburbs who did not have life threatening injuries. This kind of patient is of absolutely no concern whatsoever to the staff at Harborview and they will tell you this right to your face. They are the trauma center for a 5 state region-impressive for sure-but despite all their bells and whistles and accolades and reputation-they have no compassion
for a kid from the suburbs whose parents actually have insurance and will pay their bill and just want their son's face repaired so he doesn't go through life with no tear ducts and with scars on his face. I'm not a Doctor-just a parent-but the people at Harborview have lost any sense of sympathy, compassion or caring for their patients. Well trained? No question. Capable of handling the most severe emergencies? For sure. Do they deliver this care with even a reasonable hint of compassion for their patients-Not even. Terrible. Awful. Cocky, mean spirited people who take great joy in humiliating their patients. I cannot imagine worse medical care.
