Description

PCMH is a 43-bed acute care facility with a 43-bed nursing home. There are also 14 swing beds. We continually seek out ways to improve our services so that the people of Southeast Wyoming can feel assured they are receiving the best care.

Platte County Memorial Hospital, Nursing Home & Home Care is a 43-bed acute care facility with a 43-bed nursing home. Our services are structured, so that we can offer superior healthcare in every phase of a patient’s life. Our board certified emergency medicine physicians deliver 24-hour emergency care and the hospital’s emergency room is equipped with advanced technology for superior emergency patient care. Eastern Wyoming Ambulance Service's paramedics and EMT's are trained in advance life support and work with our ER team to ensure safe, efficient pre-hospital care and transport. In addition, Urgent Care is available evenings, weekends and holidays for care normally received during hospital hours. We are members of Banner Health System, one of the largest, nonprofit health care systems in the country operating hospitals, nursing homes and skilled nursing units in 14 states, including Alaska. Banner Health System employs nearly 25,000 people, making it one of the country's largest employers.

Wheatland, located 75 miles north of Cheyenne on Hwy 25 in South Eastern Wyoming is the county seat and with a population of 3550 the largest town in Platte County WY. Wheatland escapes most of Wyoming's winter storms benefitting crop farming. Set amid farms and ranches that are irrigated by the largest privately owned irrigation system in the Country, the town has a nine-hole public golf course, city parks with a free camping area, a swimming pool and tennis courts, Laramie Peak Museum, library, bowling alley, movie theater and fairgrounds.Wheatland provides easy access to scenic and recreational areas. Fishing, water skiing, wind-surfing, sailing and swimming are available on three major reservoirs; Grayrocks, east of Wheatland; Glendo and Guernsey. Hunting, hiking, camping and four wheeling trips can be found in the Laramie Peak area on Platte County's western side.A family-centered community, Wheatland supports many church and civic activities. Primarily an agricultural community, Wheatland boasts a large, clean industrial plant and many small businesses. For a community of this size, Wheatland is proud of the medical facilities at the Platte County Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home.

Describe any future expansion plans, added services or new developments for your facility?
As services are needed in Platte County, PCMH has always been able to meet those needs with facility additions and new services.

What makes working in your organization different from working for other employers?
Platte County Memorial Hospital is a smaller hospital that has the best of both worlds. It is in a rural community with all the advantages of small town living combined with the advances of a modern health care facility. The hospital provides many opportunities for growth, as it is connected with several other facilities within the Banner Health System.

Can you explain the career opportunities available for new graduates in your organization?
The Platte County Memorial Hospital is always open to hiring new graduate RN’s. There is a very structured orientation program throughout the Banner Health System in place. This program, the “Nurse Residency Program,” runs two to three times per year. A new graduate RN comes into the system, participates in training and education, obtains knowledge and experiences in different nursing units, and is then eventually placed at one of our hospitals. Occasionally we do hire other new graduates in areas such as radiology or therapy, and a structured orientation program is available in these specialty areas as well.

What can a candidate expect during their interview process?
The candidate will have a private interview with a manager, which could turn into a group interview. Position duties and details are discussed with the candidate. The organization is also discussed in more detail. There are times when the interview begins with a phone interview and can lead to a personal interview. At that time, the candidate is flown in and reimbursed for expenses

What are some common mistakes candidates make when applying for jobs with your facility?
Applicants frequently do not tell us enough about their knowledge, skill, ability and experience. Often they omit identifying certifications they have earned and training they have received. While a candidate may apply for one position, we may also wish to consider her/him for other positions for which she/he may be qualified.

Most facilities stress only the positive aspects of working for their organization. What are some of the challenges faced by new employees and even experienced personnel?
Within our organization, one has to be conducive towards change. Our organization has evolved and expanded over the years.
