Description

North Colorado Medical Center is a fully accredited, private, not-for-profit facility licensed to operate 326 beds.

North Colorado Medical Center serves as a regional, full-service tertiary center in a service area including Southern Wyoming, Western Nebraska, Western Kansas, and Northeast Colorado.

North Colorado Medical Center (NCMC) has grown to become one of the largest service providers in the region. Medical care for individuals in need is provided for trauma or acute emergency services. This includes transportation through various ambulance services and AirLife of Greeley. North Colorado Medical Center has been designated a Level II Trauma Center, the highest in the region, for Colorado's statewide hospital trauma system. Wellness programs and classes are provided for individuals, organizations and employers to improve health, fitness and medical condition management. There is a focus on workers' compensation case management and injury prevention. Skilled nurse, homemaker, or companion services are designed to meet the patients needs when you return home from a hospital stay or to assist you in managing complex health problems.

North Colorado Medical Center offers medical care for family members of all ages in a family-practice, residency-based clinic facility. A broad spectrum of training is provided through this program to twenty-four individuals involved in a three-year program focusing on medical care in a family practice setting. Televideo Services provides equipment that allows video technology to work with telephone lines to consult with physicians in rural medical facilities, recommend and evaluate treatment, conduct meetings and offer educational services in communities throughout the Banner Health Colorado.

Located in Greeley, the North Colorado Medical Center (NCMC) provides extensive community support programs as well as a community resource health library. This 326-bed regional medical center is dedicated to total patient care. The hospital recently completed construction of a 4-story Diagnostic Center and Medical Arts Building, now home to many private practice offices and clinics, to compliment its current facility. A full range of specialty services including a regional burn unit and hyperbaric medicine facility are available. Air Life of Greeley provides immediate emergency transport within a 300-mile radius. Other NCMC services include advanced treatment in oncology, rehabilitation, labor and delivery including Level II nursery care, and surgical services encompassing procedures from orthopedics and laser to open heart surgeries. A variety of special services from allergy to urology as well as general patient care are also offered to residents through numerous doctors and dentists in independent clinics and private offices.

Northern Colorado Medical Center (NCMC) is also a partner in a recently formed physician-hospital organization (PHO). The active medical staff includes over 200 physicians, representing virtually all specialties and subspecialties.

What types of specialty services does your organization provide?..
In 1992, a family-centered obstetrics unit and cardiac, orthopedic, neurosurgery, and day surgery units were added in an expansion to the hospital. Cardiac surgery, burn care, and complicated obstetrics are included among the many services offered through the Medical Center. An Outpatient Diagnostic Center, Medical Arts Building, and parking structure were opened in February 1995. The following services are provided: (a) medical, health, and wellness information in the form of books, audio/video tapes, and computer searches; (b) nutrition education and diabetes education, (c) facilitate support groups, (d) screenings and health assessments, (e) the health promotion components of occupational health services, (f) community education classes and presentations, (g) a hospital liaison for community outreach efforts and sponsorships, (h) consultation and referral services.

A healthy workforce can save both employers and employees the costs associated with medical insurance, life insurance and disability premiums. Healthy employees show increased productivity, energy, creativity and attention to service, and they are less likely to get sick or injured.

Occupational Health Services helps employers and employees by providing a coordinated set of services to improve the health of each individual.

What makes working in your organization different from working for other employers?
As North Colorado Medical Center is connected with several other facilities through Banner Health System, there are growth opportunities within the hospital. Within the system, there is latitude of the individual facilities to do things their own way. Flexibility is a major component of the Banner Health System.

Can you explain the career opportunities available for new graduates in your organization?
Occasionally, new graduates are hired in areas as needed such as radiology or therapy. There is a very structured orientation program. It varies from department as to the length of time. NCMC provides the "Nurse Residency Program", which is held two to three times per year. A new graduate RN comes into the system, participates in training and education, obtains knowledge and experiences in different nursing units, and is then eventually placed at one of our hospitals.

What can a candidate expect during their interview process?
The candidate will have a private interview with a manager, which may turn into a group interview. Details of the position are discussed. An overview of the organization is provided. A phone interview can also take place, and then the candidate could be invited for a personal interview. Candidates may be brought in from out of state and are reimbursed for expenses incurred

What are some common mistakes candidates make when applying for jobs with your facility?
Once the candidate has applied, it may be a lengthy process for an interview to take place. The candidate should be forthright and honest regarding their past history. Background checks are done on the candidates that apply.

Most facilities stress only the positive aspects of working for their organization. What are some of the challenges faced by new employees and even experienced personnel?
Within our organization, one has to be conducive towards change. Our organization has evolved and expanded over the years.
