Ambulanced into ED for care of "heightened" long-term illness. The worst experience in a hospital ED. Floors were filthy. Nursing staff demeaning to patient; undressing without coverage and in front of many spectators, ripped leeds off patient, harsh i.v. removal, "I'm telling you" attitude, and lack of overall communication. The ER doctor had a serious lack of communication, did not inform the patient of treatment strategy, touched patient inappropriately, more interested in obtaining medical records and reading them than focussing on emergency at hand, and did not use the stethoscope on patient (did not listen to lungs). ER Department moved very slow, serious lack of compassion. The ER department was unprofessional in their medical duties. It seemed to be more of a "club or click" than a medical facility. They were oblivious to their patients who are/were in pain and suffering. They did not provide copies or information to tests performed. They were very reluctant to provide discharge information, nurse did not want patient to look at discharge or sign the discharge, nurse took discharge information away from patient for no apparent reason. It seemed the ER Department wanted patient to leave without signing discharge. They became hostile when asked to read discharge information. Discharged patient without any verbal follow-up treatment advice.
