Medical Job Title: Registered Nurse - Psychiatric RN

Job Description: Registered Nurse provides assessment and monitoring of patient’s psychiatric, medical, and social needs, including review of systems, treatment plans, and discharge planning as a part of a multi-disciplinary team; assesses and treats emergencies and/or triages appropriately; oversees medication monitoring and administration under staff Psychiatrist or Nurse Practitioner; assists in managing medical and pharmaceutical supplies. Graduated from an accredited school of Nursing and licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Colorado. Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Two (2) years previous experience in a psychiatric hospital or other psychiatric setting preferred. Previous background in an emergency department and family practice setting desirable.

Clinical practice of psychiatric nursing:
Registered Nurses in psychiatry may choose to work at either a basic or advanced practice level. RN's working at a basic level perform mental health client assessments, develop a nursing care plan, and evaluate the progress of the nursing care.
Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nurses have additional education, generally a Master's degree in psychiatric nursing and may work as as either a Nurse Practioner or Clinical Nurse Specialist. Advance Practice Psychiatric Nurses may prescribe medications in certain states and find advanced practice psychiatric nursing jobs in hospitals, mental health centers, community mental health settings, medical offices or HMO's.
