Q. Can you tell us more about your organization?

Q. Describe any future expansion plans, added services or new developments for your facility?
Central Oregon Community Hospital recently merged with St. Charles Medical Center in Bend, Oregon to form the region’s first fully integrated health system. It is the intent of the new organization to broaden the scope of services offered at the hospital and in the community.
Q. What makes working in your organization different from working for other employers?
Central Oregon Community Hospital is committed to improving community health as is noted by the extensive community partnerships that exist. Further, Central Oregon Community Hospital maintains a culture that focuses on the personal and professional development of its staff and embracing learning and innovation.
Q. Can you explain the career opportunities available for new graduates in your organization?
Central Oregon Community Hospital is dedicated to the development of health care professionals. Starting at the high school student level by supporting a Health Care Careers curriculum in the Redmond School District, and for those interested in pursuing a more active role the Certified Nursing Aid pilot program. New graduates in nursing and other professions are mentored in a six month program but positions are limited to projected staffing needs. For professionals with a commitment to learning new areas and expertise, the hospital supports varied externship programs throughout the region.
Q. What can a candidate expect during their interview process?
Applications are routed from the Human Resources department to the appropriate manager for review and follow-up. The Manager then contacts those applicants they are interested in for a short telephone interview. Following telephone interviews, the selected candidates are invited for an interview with the hiring manager. For some positions, team interviews may be conducted. It is our desire to make this process a positive experience for every individual and to make them as comfortable as possible during the interview.

Q. What are some common mistakes candidates make when applying for jobs with your facility?
The most common mistakes are incomplete applications - stating, “see resume” and not completing all sections of the application and a Lack of professional appearance and demeanor.

Q. Most facilities stress only the positive aspects of working for their organization. What are some of the challenges faced by new employees and even experienced personnel?
Historically, the major obstacles included difficult challenges faced by smaller rural hospitals with limited access to capital. The recent merger with St. Charles Medical Center however has mitigated this.

Community Highlights
Central Oregon is alive with pleasure from thrill-seeking white water terror to a placid day of fishing at Fireman's Pond.
Alpine skiing, hiking, swimming, biking, horseback riding, mountain biking, rock climbing, water-skiing, rock hounding, spelunking, camping, and llama packing are all ways you can spend a sunny day as well.
Many Beautiful City Parks
Redmond is also home of the Peterson Rock Garden, Operation Santa Claus (a working reindeer ranch), and Eagle Crest Resort. July 30 to Aug. 2, Redmond comes alive with the Deschutes County Fair, the biggest and best fair this side of the Cascades.
Fireman's Pond is located on Lake Road. The pond is a perennial favorite with children because during trout season the lake is bubbling with jumping fish. Fishing is for children and disabled adults only.
   
Additional Thoughts About The Community
Redmond has much to offer the outdoor enthusiast. Smith Rock State Park is the area attraction visitors are most curious about. The world famous rock-climbing area draws climbers from all corners of the world. It provides not only the best climbing surface for sports enthusiast, but awe-inspiring vistas, for rock-climbing is becoming a huge spectator sport. For the neophyte climber shoe rentals and hiking guides are available in Redmond and Bend.
