Description: |
|
|
Worland, the county seat of Washakie County is located in the north central part of Wyoming, approx. 30 miles west of the beautiful Big Horn Mountains and National Forest on Hwy 16 and 20. With a population of 6000, Worland is a modern, warm and friendly western community, providing the "good life" to residents and visitors alike. The town has a proud heritage and reveals a strong sense of community through the many churches, schools, parks and a modern local hospital. The area main business activities are agriculture, minerals, tourism, wholesale and retail trade. Per capita, Worland is the most industrialized city in Wyoming, and one of the most stable communities in the state. As a result Worland has a highly skilled and motivated labor force. People love it here, the retail businesses provide plenty of shopping opportunities, the Outdoor enthusiasts can choose from golfing a highly rated 18-hole course, search a geological site for prehistoric plant fossils or enjoy a peaceful stay camping at Meadowlark or West Ten Sleep Lake. The region offers some of the best wildlife, fishing and yearound outdoors activities in the west. Due to the fact that Worland and Ten Sleep are set in a valley surrounded by mountains; the Big Horns on the east side and the Absaroka and Wind River mountains on the west, there is very little wind and Washakie County (Pop. 8500) is also known as the "Banana Belt" of Wyoming with 300 plus sunshine days. The Big Horns provide both Alpine and Nordic skiing, snowmobiling, fishing, camping and hunting at its best. Water skiing is a favorite summer past-time and a health club provides a full range of services including racquetball. There are multiple opportunities for children to participant in recreational sports, starting in the primary grades.
