Department: Surgery Unit Full-time Day and Day/Evening shifts 8 hour or 10 hour or 12 hour shifts 60-80 Hours per Pay Period High school diploma or equivalent is required - Certification Required Experience is preferred Supervisory experience is preferred REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND TRAINING: 1. High school diploma or equivalent 2. Certified School of Surgical Technology 3. National Certification by Association of Surgical Technologists within one year of hire, and recertification as needed. 4. Must be currently certified in CPR, and recertified annually. 5. Maintain Registration annually. GENERAL FUNCTION: Functions as vital member of the OR team assuming responsibility for the scrub position during surgical intervention. Maintains a safe environment by implementing technical and aseptic practices according to AORN Standards and Central Washington Hospital policies and procedures. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Provide patient care applying principles of asepsis. 2. Learn surgical procedures and subjects relating to operating room/surgical patient. 3. Provide safe, efficient environment for surgical patient. 4. Use surgical instruments and equipment and know their specific uses in procedures. 5. Function within legal limitations. 6. Recognize own limitations and seek assistance accordingly. 7. Demonstrate knowledge of types of patient conditions. 8. Identify structure/function of body parts and common disorders. 9. Assist team members by setting up/maintaining sterile field; break down room following a case. 10. Locate supplies and equipment. 11. Report and recognize faulty equipment/unsafe conditions. 12. Other duties as assigned. 13. Demonstrate flexibility in response to changes in work volume, staffing, emergencies, or scheduling. 14. Participate in orientation of new employees; assist other OR personnel in learning new equipment/procedures. 15. Demonstrate positive, supportive behavior toward patient/family/staff/co-workers. 16. Maintain confidentiality of patient information, peers, clinical facility, and staff. 17. Identify problem area of unit and equipment and deal with them appropriately. 18. Attend educational/information activities. 19. Respond positively to supervision/suggestions. 20. Comply with hospital standards, policies, and procedures. 21. Enhance the image of Surgical Technologist to other staff and public 22. Evaluate own physical health/emotional stability. 23. Handle stress in a positive manner and maintain emotional control. 24. Respond quickly when on call. 25. Maintain good personal/professional appearance 26. Required to take call as rotation requires after hours/weekends/holidays..
