JOB SUMMARY
Continuously exemplifies the mission, values and customer service philosophy of PeaceHealth in job performance and in relationships to others. This position is accountable for compiling data on all cases of malignant disease admitted to St. John Medical Center for treatment and maintaining the computerized registry.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
· Carry out procedures for identifying all cases of malignant disease admitted to the medical center for treatment.
· Abstract information from patient medical record using the abstract form, patient management guidelines and clinical data sets.
· Provide cancer patient follow-up through locating and contacting all living patients to obtain end-results information on quality of life and length of survival.
· Maintain computerized data system currently in operation in the registry. Maintain confidentiality and security of patient data stored in registry system.
· Implement and document quality control procedures for case-finding, abstracting, coding, follow-up and data processing.
· Maintain a procedural manual detailing the operations of the tumor registry. Provide guidance in appropriate use of registry data.
· Access data for various needs including; analysis, interpretation and preparation of narrative reports and graphic presentations.
· Assist Cancer Committee in developing criteria for patient care evaluation, assisting in data collection for protocol studies, and carrying out audits as required.
· Coordinate activities of cancer registry with those of the Cancer Committee and tumor conference.
· Provide staff assistance to and maintain records of the multi-disciplinary tumor board.
· Prepare the Cancer Program annual report for distribution to the Medical Staff and Administration by November 1st of each year as required by ACos.
· Attend meetings of the Cancer Committee as a standing member and prepare agenda, present information, take and type minutes of meeting on prn basis.
· Review and disseminate current literature to appropriate persons.
· Supervise work of Registry Technician and be available to provide ongoing training as needed.
· Continuously reflect departmental and hospital philosophy as well as hospital’s mission statement in your job performance and in relationships to others.
· Participates in educational in-services as requested by Supervisor, and as required to maintain certification.
· Performs other duties as required or assigned.
· Promotes a safety-conscious work force and maintains good housekeeping practices.
· Communicates appropriately with the person served regardless of their age.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS: EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS
Requires knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, medical-legal laws. Must have computer skills/knowledge including; keyboarding, data entry, and Microsoft Word & Excel, and desk-top publishing ( pagemaker ). 50 wpm typing speed. Organizational skills and ability to work with minimal supervision. Strong communication and customer service skills.
EDUCATION/LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS
· Required: High School or equivalent. Licensed RN, LPN, or Certified ART, CTR.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Pleasant office setting. Occasional pressure in meeting deadlines and handling multiple project/ task.
SENSORY/PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Physical: Prolonged periods of sitting. Occasional standing, walking, light lifting up to 15 lbs
