LOCATION / DUTY STATION: PHOENIX INDIAN MEDICAL CENTER, National Institutes of Health, Sacaton, AZ

SERIES / GRADE / SALARY: GS-4: $21,123 - $27,461 PER ANNUM

NUMBER / TYPE OF POSITION: ONE PERMANENT FULL TIME

WHO MAY APPLY:
· Merit Promotion Plan (MPP) Candidates: Applications will be accepted from status eligibles (e.g., reinstatement eligibles and current permanent employees in the competitive Federal service) and from current permanent IHS employees in the Excepted Service who are entitled to Indian Preference and from individuals who are eligible for excepted appointments in IHS under some other authority (e.g., handicapped authority, etc.) Those MPP candidates eligible for Indian Preference, who so desire, may also apply under ESEP provisions by indicating on their application, "Consideration under both MPP and ESEP."
· Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP) Candidates: Applications will be accepted from individuals entitled to Indian Preference. Current permanent IHS Excepted Service employees and Competitive Service employees or Reinstatement eligible entitled to Indian Preference may also apply under the provision of the Indian Health Service Excepted Service Examining Plan. ( If selected under the Excepted Service Examining Plan, individuals may be appointed under Schedule A authority without regard to Time-In-Grade requirements.)
· Applications will be accepted from individuals eligible for non-competitive appointment (e.g., applicants eligible for appointment under the Veterans Readjustment Act, the severely handicapped, those with a 30% or more compensable service-connected disability). Veterans who are preference eligibles or who have been separated from the armed forces under honorable conditions after 3 years or more of continuous active service may apply.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Performs all or a combination of the following duties on a regular or rotating basis: Conducts interviews with respondents during scheduled clinical visits in order to obtain and/or verify demographic data, medical history particularly that which relates to the specific research areas of obesity, diabetes, arthritis and the complications of each and cross checks various study profile listings to determine if the respondent meets other studies criteria. Maintains working files such as demographic listings, worksheets, study control number files, patient alphabetical name files and clinical plastic card files. Makes field contact with members of the community using own vehicle primarily thorough home visits, to request their participation in the ongoing research studies. Required to operate, monitor and/or record results of medical equipment during regular clinic examinations. Typical equipment includes but is not limited to: Titmus visual acuity machine, electrocardiographic tracings, Canon Retinal camera used for taking color photographs of Fundus of the eye and x-ray film processor. Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: General Experience Specialized Experience OR Education


GS-4 1 year None 2 years above high school

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.

EDUCATION: Successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite is creditable at grades GS-3 through GS-5 for all positions. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.

EVALUATION METHODS: When required by Personnel Regulations, an evaluation will also be made to the extent to which experience, education, training, self-development, outside activities, and/or awards demonstrate the basically qualified applicant
