WHO MAY APPLY: Merit Promotion Plan candidates: Applications will be accepted from status eligibles (e.g. reinstatement eligibles and current permanent employees in the competitive Federal service) and from current permanent IHS employees in the Excepted Service who are entitled to Indian Preference. Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP) Candidates: Applications will be accepted from individuals entitled to Indian Preference. Current permanent IHS Excepted Service employees and Competitive Service employees or Reinstatement eligible entitled to Indian Preference may also apply under the provision of the Indian Health Service Excepted Service Examining Plan. Candidates MUST indicate whether their application is submitted under the IHS Excepted Service Examining Plan, the IHS Area Merit Promotion Plan or both. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES : This position is located in the Phoenix Indian Medical Center in the Procedure Room. The purpose of this position is to provide nursing care to patients requiring gastrointestinal interventions—GI scoping lab. Also to provide assistance, monitor patients and provide nursing care to patients requiring a multitude of procedures. To operate technical equipment used in monitoring and during procedures on patients, GI endoscopes, reprocessors, disinfecting of equipment. Able to develop, implement, and evaluate standards of care; administer age specific therapeutic measures; teach and counsel patients, families and staff; and, perform or participate in the development of nursing procedures and performance improvement standards. Collects data through observation, examination, review of medical records, and consultation with other service units (facilities as necessary) and assesses patient’s psychosocial and physical condition to distinguish between normal and abnormal and the degree of abnormality and to establish a baseline. Develops an age specific standard of care based on physician’s medical care plan and including problems, expected outcomes (patient care standards), deadlines, and interventions/plan of action therapeutic measures, nursing interventions for the adolescent, adult and geriatric patient. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must meet the following experience and/or education requirements:
Basic Requirements Þ Education: Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.
Registration (Licensure): Applicants must have a current and active registration (license) as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. An applicant who has graduated from an approved nursing educational program within the past 12 months may be appointed pending State registration (licensure) as a professional nurse within 6 months of appointment. No person appointed pending registration (licensure) may be retained beyond 6 months, or promoted, if registration (licensure) has not been attained.
